New style trends demonstrated by Samsung’s monumental UHD TV, Premium F8500 LED

Samsung unveiled new products in television, home appliances, connected cameras, PCs and printers, redefining its product categories across virtually all its product lines featuring more intuitive control, and "personalised user experiences".

“Europe is a dynamic region which continues to be at the heart of Samsung’s business and a constant source of our inspiration,” said SP Kim, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics Europe. “From Smart TVs that are redefining the TV experience to hyper-connected cameras, intelligent home appliances and the most versatile PCs, our European product line up this year reflects our commitment to challenge the norm, delight our customers, and remove barriers between people and their content. We want to bring our European customers not just what they expect, but what they never dreamed was possible.”

Samsung’s complete portfolio was displayed at the Samsung European Forum at the Auditorium in the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

New trends in TV technology and design

Samsung introduces a full line up of larger-screen TVs that includes its first 85-inch Ultra High Definition TV (UHD TV), the 85S9. The 85S9’s "Timeless Gallery" design features classic minimalism with the 85-inch display.

The UHD TV 85S9 offers four times the resolution of Full HD displays to deliver exceptional picture detail and clarity. It also includes an up-scaling engine that can automatically up-convert HD and Full HD content to UHD resolution. The 85S9 offers support for the new high compression video codec, HEVC, which delivers double the video quality over the same bandwidth.

Samsung also launched its flagship F8500 LED TV. The 8500 (see photo top of page) features Samsung’s premium Magnum design, presenting the TV frame and stand as a single unified structure and incorporating a naturally-curved back made of the same material as the rest of the frame.—and to be equipped with a quad-core processor for boosted performance.

Samsung has completely redesigned its 2013 Smart Hub, which intelligently organises a viewer’s content into clear, dynamic menu panels to provide a simple, more intuitive way to discover and experience television.

The new Smart Hub includes OnTV, the world’s first TV service to analyse users’ on-Air TV viewing habits and offer  personalised programme suggestions in real time with S-Recommendation. On TV will be the new landing screen when turning on the Samsung Smart TV in 2013, offering, within seconds, a simple overview of what currently interesting is “on TV” and this based on day, time and personal taste.

Drawing on Samsung’s mobile strengths, the navigation experience of the 2013 Smart Hub is reminiscent of that featured on its smartphones or tablets. It is further augmented with Samsung’s enhanced motion control capabilities, which make navigating Smart Hub’s five panels--On TV; Movies & TV Shows; Photos, Videos & Music; Social; and Apps - more convenient.

This advanced TV user experience has been expanded to smartphones and tablets, thanks to Samsung’s leadership in connectivity. Viewers can search and schedule content on a tablet, view content remotely, or mirror their Smart TV content on a tablet to take it with them around the home.

In select European countries this year, S-Recommendation will be complemented with Samsung’s Voice Interaction technology, with the capability of understanding full sentences and natural language to deliver requests for film or TV show suggestions.

Additionally, Samsung introduced its 2013 Evolution Kit. By simply adding the Evolution Kit to a Samsung Smart TV, users can have immediate access to the latest Samsung Smart TV offerings, including quad-core CPU power and the newly updated Smart Hub.

Finally, Samsung has introduced the HW-F751, the "world’s first" AirTrack, a sound bar that can connect with a TV via Bluetooth, or double as a wireless speaker for smartphones or tablets. Its integration of a vacuum tube into AirTrack—also a world’s first—delivers a warmer, more immersive sound with virtually no distortion. Its silver, slim metal design separate, wireless subwoofer complement the premium design of any Samsung Smart TV.

Capturing images for every moment

Samsung is also still on track with its SMART CAMERA vision. As the newest addition to its NX-range, the NX300 blends simplified Wi-Fi sharing with high image quality, fast Hybrid Auto Focus, and 3D still and video capture.

The NX300 is complemented by the new Samsung NX 45mm F1.8 2D/3D lens, Samsung's first one-lens 3D system for a consumer camera, capable of capturing both still pictures and full 1080p HD video. This new lens opens up an exciting world of 3D imaging possibilities and makes the Samsung NX Series the only interchangeable lens camera supporting both 3D stills and 3D movies.

Central to the NX300’s outstanding imaging performance is its new 20.3 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. A newly designed Hybrid Auto Focus (AF) system delivers fast, accurate phase and contrast detection AF, and the camera features 1/6000 second top shutter speed and 8.6fps continuous shooting mode. Samsung’s latest DRIMe IV imaging engine provides new developments in speed and quality; it enables better colour reproduction and greater noise reduction. Support for full 1080p HD video capture in both 2D and 3D — when combined with Samsung’s new 45mm F1.8 2D/3D lens—is also available through the DRIMe IV’s engine capabilities.

The NX300’s 84mm (3.31 inch) AMOLED screen comes complete with a tilt display allowing photos to be captured from any angle, high and low, while making it more convenient to review images. The AMOLED screen is combined with touch-screen capabilities and a 5-way manual key interface.

In addition to the SMART CAMERA capabilities of the NX300, Samsung also announced the launch of a new line of Wi-Fi enabled compact cameras: the WB250F/WB200F, the WB800F, WB30F, DV150F and ST150F. As new additions to the WB series of long-zoom models, DV series of Dual View cameras and ST series of Style Feature cameras, the new devices combine high optical performance and classic style with the enhanced connectivity of SMART CAMERA.
